Background and Training

Dr. Chung was raised in Houston, Texas and has called DFW home for the past 10 years. He completed his B.S. and B.A. degrees in Biology and Business at the University of Texas at Austin. He then moved to Dallas for the top-ranked plastic surgery residency program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, under the mentorship of highly regarded and world-renowned plastic surgeons.

He was appointed Administrative Chief Resident and was recognized by his peers and faculty with the Excellence in Teaching Award. His surgical skill and technical expertise were further sharpened through complex microsurgical reconstruction for cancer and trauma patients, performing over two thousand procedures during this time. Dr. Chung trained under recognized experts in facial aging and rejuvenation surgery in Dallas and additionally sought advanced training nationally to learn the most refined techniques.

Dr. Chung remains current with the latest research and technology and has authored peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on aesthetic surgery. He was awarded Best Paper in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal Global Open in 2017. 

He has advanced training in laser treatments, including ablative lasers such as CO₂ and erbium, pulsed dye lasers, non-ablative lasers, and intense pulsed light.

Philosophy and Surgical Approach

Dr. Chung recognizes that each patient is unique. He works closely with his patients, listening carefully to their concerns, with the goal of creating an ideal treatment plan tailored to each individual’s needs. His gentle bedside manner, calm demeanor, and approachable disposition help patients feel comfortable and at ease. His philosophy has always been that the patients come first, and that excellent medical outcomes begin with excellent patient care.

He believes that aesthetic judgment and design decisions are what truly set plastic surgeons apart. His individualized approach to facial rejuvenation considers patient anatomy, pattern and severity of aging, cultural background, personal goals and desires, recovery timeline and lifestyle, as well as the surgeon’s judgment—ultimately arriving at a shared plan.

At the foundation of Dr. Chung’s facial rejuvenation practice is the deep plane preservation composite facelift. Whether patients are interested in a deep plane facelift, deep plane necklift, targeted procedures for specific concerns, or a comprehensive facial rejuvenation, he believes it is essential to understand, and thus be able to retrospectively predict, each patient’s unique pattern of aging in order to truly restore while preserving identity.

Outside of the operating room, he enjoys spending time with his family and wife, Julia, who runs a floral design studio specializing in sculptural, natural arrangements.

He joined the practice to join his mentor and friend Dr. Naveen Setty, MD, a highly respected and established plastic surgeon in the North Texas region.
